    Yes, it's an endotracheal tube or an LMA (laryngeal mask airway) for breathing. Because you want to do that!!! They may put a bougie down your throat, but you will never know it. Bougie is a big rubber dilator for lack of better words.

    You will be asleep when they place the tube, I promise, as that is what I do for a living. You will have no clue that you were ever intubated after surgery, maybe a slightly sore throat but most people don't have that either as you're not intubated that long during surgery.

    They make totally sure that you never know about it. They will give you something to make you relax before you go into the OR and the pull the tube out before you ever start to wake up. You may have a tiny bit of scratchy throat, but that's it. They'll put a catheter in too.
