What is MTHFR Heterozygous 1286A in My Test Results?

I just got bloodwork results back that says I have MTHFR heterozygous 1286A. I have read so much in less than 24 hrs my head hurts and I’m still really confused as to what it means since I’m not really finding the 1286A part.

Hi, Katelin, you can relax. Your results mean it's not that bad. Think of it this way. There are four place holders where your genes could vary from the "norm." Only one of those four is a variant.

The two basic tenets of protocol for those with the MTHFR mutation are:

    1. Avoid folic acid as much as possible and supplement it with either methylated folate or folinic acid.
    2.  Avoid cyanocobalamin (a type of B12) and supplement with one or more of the other three types of B12, which are Methylcobalamin, Hydroxycobalamin, and Adenosylcobalamin.

What do you have going on that prompted the doctor to test you for MTHFR? What symptoms do you have?

I miscarried for the third time and requested them to. Although there’s a lot of autoimmune type things in my family.

In your opinion should I request anything else?

I'm so sorry to hear that. Have you looked at the possibility of Copper Overload?
