My four years old is a partially vaccinated son, was just diagnosed with asthma. The doc wants him to inhale Asmanex (steroid) for 4-6 weeks in the morning. I’ve read the possible side effects, and I’m looking for alternative treatment and support!
I can only speak of our experience and what we learned. Our son was diagnosed with asthma around the time he was with a peanut allergy. He was given albuterol. Then since still symptomatic, he was given a daily inhaler with warnings for under 5. We know since seeing his new local allergist and now OIT specialist, he does not need these if he isn’t symptomatic. He has EpiPen injections too for the allergy, but they can be used for a severe asthma attack. Thankfully, we have never needed them for asthma.
For our son, if he isn’t around the environmental allergens (mold from the family of pines – worst in late fall and of course Christmas), he doesn’t have symptoms. Avoidance is key, as is boosting the immune system naturally. We detoxed gently and went organic for his diet, etc as much as possible. He is taking good supplements and high count probiotics (Klaire Labs Children’s).
Some EOs can irritate, so do your research. We switched vacuums to a good one that eliminates allergens (Rainbow would be best, but I haven’t invested yet), have an air purifier, do not use open vent in the car.
He has been symptom-free for more than a year now. It’s possible.
All good advice, thank you. The specialist he saw was a pediatric pulmonologist, not an allergist. We’ve seen a decrease in “throat clearing, coughing, etc” in the last few months with a change in diet and supporting lung function with supplements as prescribed by our naturopath. “Do not use open vent in the car.” What do you mean?
Completely gut mediated. Empty the gut, use bone broth short prep, give diverse probiotics and lots of them like Bravo yoghurt, Just Thrive, GutPro, Sacro-B, FloRester or alternate these and bet it gets better.
I’d love to know the benefit. I have the Nourishing Traditions cookbook and it’s been great, but I’ve never seen short broth prep advocated before. Tell me more!
It all comes back to the gut! You need to either outrun the bad with good bacteria or kill all bad bacteria, then populate with numerous microbes. For some, this cannot happen without emptying and healing gi tissue first.
Know too that with every infection, every allergic reaction, or antibiotic use-you have to assume microbiome is disrupted and leaky gut is there. Even if previously healed. Food is the best way to do this with bare feet exercise/outside time and regulating sleep.
Most probiotics brands you buy at the store die before ever reaching where they need to! $ lost. Also, CBD oil shows crazy, crazy amazing results. There is a lotion that you put on the back of the neck once a day that stops so many symptoms in kids called Isoderm. No prescription required. Also, you have to avoid glyphosate and glutamates.
Broth from organic grass-fed animals has stem cell-like material that feeds intestinal cells to heal. Cooking it longer than 1.5 hrs breaks it down too much and histamines surge.
My bf And 9 year old were on steroids for there asthma I pulled them off about three months ago and now they both use a Himalayan salt inhaler twice a day. Works better than the inhaler ever did and it’s all natural. Still, have an emergency one for them just in case! Here’s a video that shows how to use them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6qdn3mO43c
Is it working for them? How long are their sessions on it? And how often do you guys change the salt inside? Do you cook with it afterwards or just toss it?
My daughter only does it seasonally that’s when her asthma acts up is with allergies and she uses it for 15 min tops a day. My bf uses it 2 times a day for 30 min each time.
We haven’t changed the daughters salt yet since going on three months but for my bf, we have replaced it once. We don’t cook with it after bf is a little bit of a germophobe! He has been on an inhaler for years and still coughs from it.
We tried this and he still coughs but not nearly as much and now when he goes to the gym he can run a mile without stopping which is huge for him he could never do that before :).
I know you know this, Gut related, increase intake of Vit C, bone broth with sea salt and lots of veggies, earthing in the sunshine and green grass, (no Roundup) and Epsom salt/baking soda baths.
I use a cup or 2 of pure Epsom salts and about a cup of baking soda in my bath, also occasionally add a Vit C tablet that I get off Amazon which dechlorinates. Sometimes, I add EO’s, if I have a special need… and I also have a Berkey shower head which dechlorinates…wish I had a whole house system to kick the fluoride out too, but, the Epsom and baking soda do help.
What helped me was getting rid of dairy. Milk produces mucus. Learning my limitations. So I had to stop doing whatever I was doing right before I get tired. So not too much sports. Make sure that my bedding is always dust free & allergen-free. You might want to invest in an air purifier or air cleansing plants for your home.
When I was about five years old, I was diagnosed with allergic asthma. My trigger then was paint fumes and exhaustion.
Later (I was about 17 by then) I found out that I can’t have lobster, shrimp, crab– crustacean. We seldom ate these and I really thought that I was just running around and playing too much with my cousins whenever my fisherman uncle visited.
When I figured out all of the things I was allergic to, I learned to avoid them and not have as many asthma attacks.
My mom favoured Salbutamol Ventolin / expectorant. For really bad days, my attacks are usually when it gets cooler / night time, we would use the nebulizer… kind of worked like a humidifier — there were days when we didn’t have the meds to put in the nebulizer. Then we also did the team bucket, towel over head thing when the machine broke. Oh, and my mom would puree Oregano… yeah, she grew an oregano plant — the more succulent fleshy kind and would have me take that as an expectorant when we didn’t have money for Salbutamol.
So now as an adult, whenever I get a runny nose, I take Vit C and natural Vit D from the sun. I basically sit outside and let the warmth of the sun be on my back. I do my best not to get stuffy nose/ congestion. Wear a hat and keep my back warm in between seasons. Never sleep with wet hair.
When I feel like I’m going to get a cold, I wear a knit hat to bed at night. Eventually, you just learn how your body responds to things. During a recent road trip, I found out that sudden change in humidity also causes me to have difficulty breathing the same as when the shower gets too steamy.
I also have a slight allergy to strong fragrance and pollen. I am working with my chiropractor on this. My allergy to cats is gone with two years of working with my chiro! For now, I work in my garden while wearing one of those masks with filters on.
I love gardening and caring for plants. For indoors, Peace Lily and snake plant work best because they adjust well to indoor light and don’t mind not getting 6 hours of sunlight.
So do you put the Himalayan salt, high dose vitamin C, raw milk, oregano oil, ginkgo, bone broth, Epsom salts, thyme, magnesium sulfate, potassium, essential oils, kefir, probiotics, yoghurt and lavender in a blender and drink it? Or is it administered as a suppository?
I used to have asthma. Oxygenated water was really helpful. Wild cherry bark too. I drank it every day. The tea does taste like dirt. You can add a little wild honey for sweetness. My friend would give her son unsweetened cranberry juice and it would stop his attacks. If he is eating the standard American diet you need to move towards healthier foods.
My fully vaccinated son, now 9yrs old went thru the same thing for the good first seven years of his young life. After his 7th birthday, I decided it was enough and started a Homeopath treatment, and today he has no symptoms of asthma and plays soccer.
He was having breathing problems. Doctors said it was Asthma; you could see his tummy deepen as he took in breaths. His tonsils constantly were getting those little white spots that gave him fevers. He went through so many meds our kitchen table was full of meds. It was awful.
One day we took him in again, and Doctor said all meds were exhausted and recommended a shot on each arm every week. That’s when I said no more shots; I strongly think my sons breathing problems were caused by the DTaP vaccine and denied it and changed to a Homeopath doctor.
He went thru a diet program and Homeopath treatment and instantly we saw drastic changes. Now my son has no symptoms of asthma and has gone back to a normal diet and even has a snow cone here and there. We also are not giving him any boosters at all.
Use Antihistamine/ Decongestant combo for children Instead of steroids!! It really works & has saved my life from asthma! You have to understand how the body works and asthma.
Asthma is primarily caused by allergies. When an allergen enters the body, the body’s immune system recognizes it as an irritant, which stimulates the production of histamine, which causes the body to produce thick, sticky mucus to soothe the irritation caused by the histamine response.
Thus, the mucus increases in the lungs, but the lungs can’t get rid of it, although the lungs try through coughing, because it’s too thick and sticky and fills a portion of the lungs, inhibiting breathing.
An antihistamine reduces the body’s histamine response of producing excess mucous, and the decongestant breaks up and liquifies the mucous so the lungs can expel it naturally. Thus, lung capacity is restored, and one can breathe normally.
The doctors claim that the bronchus is “restricted” and “narrowed,” and require steroids to reduce inflammation to “open up the airways.” What they are completely ignoring, and have continued to ignore since 1970 (when my own mother for asthma while pregnant), is the fundamental physiology of the cause and the body’s response.
I tell you from personal experience, mine, my sister’s and my mother’s. The fact that the medical ignores basic physiology is just as frightening as knowing that they refuse to treat it properly and continue to use the same protocol as 47 years ago, which Destroys The Body!
Long term steroid use depletes the calcium from bones and teeth, destroys the adrenal glands, caused diabetes, thins the skin, causes cataracts, and a host of other unpleasant conditions. Why, in the world would anyone give their child such thing?
Honestly, if you do what I suggest, even though you might have to go through a few antihistamines and decongestants to find the ones (or the combination) that works with his body chemistry like I had to do, you will see a vast change.
Taking an antihistamine & decongestant has literally saved my life numerous times! I was able to get my mother off of steroid inhalers which she had become allergic to from overuse (& which cause difficulty breathing), by switching her to the otc medication (Walgreens generic brand “Wal-Finate D” ) that I’ve been taking since the mid-1990s, and it worked!
It has also worked for others who have taken my recommendation and stopped using inhalers.
Get him off the inhaler by doing the antihistamines/ decongestant thing, then go about changing his diet to an organic plant-based, no salt, no dairy except some fat-free organic yogurt, no meat of any kind. A good clean diet will help detoxify his little body and his asthma should disappear rather quickly. Also, have him tested for allergies!!!
Skunk cabbage root can treat it. I found the inhalers treated it temporally but made my asthma more extreme while the effects where being covered up temporally. I found a consistent cardiovascular activity to be the best thing to improve my lungs. Ever since I stopped using the inhalers my asthma has slowly improved. I’m hardly affected by it now. Depending on your zones natural humidity and level of salt in the air, use a humidifier while he is sleeping along with a Himalayan salt inhaler might help.
Homeopathy can really help with asthma. If there is a life threatening situation I would take the pharma products in the short term, but long term I’d work with a homeopath to deal with the underlying issue so eventually, he doesn’t need any pharma products because he doesn’t have asthma anymore.
I’ve had asthma for years and discovered acupuncture two years ago. I’ve experienced a 95% reduction in my symptoms. I used to be on daily steroid inhalers plus 3-4 times a week emergency inhaler 6 to 9 puffs.
Since acupuncture, (I average 2 appointments a month) I no longer need the steroids and I’ve only had to use the emergency inhaler twice in the last year and only one puff each time. I don’t know if this would work for your son though, I can’t imagine keeping a little one still for half an hour for the treatments.
What?! Only one attack and then head straight for the steroids? I didn’t start on steroids until other things didn’t work after five years. Wow. All I can tell you is my own experience. Once you go on the steroidal inhaler, it is really hard to get off – I become dependent on it, and when I tried to get off of it, I ended up more susceptible to attacks.
They want you dependent on them for life. Essentially, the steroid reduces inflammation in the lungs but in the process, it shuts down your body’s natural production of anti-inflammatory chemicals so, when you try to remove the artificial steroid, your body isn’t at first producing sufficient natural anti-inflammation hormones to prevent flare-ups as you come off the drug.
It becomes a self-perpetuating cycle of dependency from there. My acupuncturist supported my transition off the pharmaceuticals with Chinese herbs to strengthen the lung meridian. It worked, and now I never want to go back.
Two of my friends cured their Asthma by nebulizing RESPIRATORY SUPPORT. I cured my own pneumonia in three days. Two friends cured their asthma. Works with all respiratory issues. For asthma, you may need to use three times a day for 10-14 days. A capful in nebulizer container. He will be free of RX MEDICATIONS. I’m so happy that this has been a life saver for me.
Respiratory Support is a product made majorly of molecular silver. What makes it more effective for fighting pneumonia and bronchitis is its second ingredient, a very small amount of hydrogen peroxide. It really works!

Like for fan or A/C, you should be able to choose fresh or circulated air. Choose circulated if environmental allergens are a trigger.
